ATD2 is a compact and expandable backpack designed for commuting, everyday carry and short-term travel — or long-term, if you are minimalist enough.
Its volume goes from roughly 18 to 31 litres, with around 25 litres sitting in the sweet spot for both everyday use and travel. The backpack provides enough room and versatility: use it as your daily backpack and have room for the unexpected trip to the grocery, expand it for a weekend or a bunch of days away, or pair it with your larger checked luggage if you want a compact, carry-on compatible travel companion that is still expandable enough for shopping and extra load.
Versatility is the key feature here: the ATD2 is designed around the space between everyday backpack and travel backpack. Compressed, it stays compact enough for commuting, work and daily carry. Expanded, it gives you the extra capacity needed for short trips, a minimalist one-bag setup, or a carry-on companion if you need to carry checked-in luggage.
Designed, used and refined

Intrigued by this challenge, I didn't want to simply scale its bigger brother down. Even keeping expandability as a key feature, different size means different uses, different problems to solve, different settings to use the pack in. It had to be compact, conceived for fast uses, more commuter-friendly, more easily accessible.
If the ATD1 is the one-bag travel backpack that becomes your everyday pack, the ATD2 had to be the everyday backpack that can become your travel bag.
Adjustable volume
Thanks to its expandability, it's spacious enough for carrying your essentials and extra clothing and compact enough for carry-on. It can be compressed to daypack size once at a destination for daily exploring or commuting.
On the organization side, the ATD2 follows the same approach as the ATD1: enough pockets to store your stuff, not enough to lose it.
Comfortable enough to be carried for hours, the whole design makes the pack protective from weather or unwanted access while still being accessible for the user, thanks to the double roll top + back panel clamshell access, and the fast magnetic closure.
The ATD2 keeps the discreet, understated and restrained look of the ATD family. No unnecessary visual clutter, just a compact backpack designed around changing needs to work equally well on a commute, in an airport, at a desk or on a weekend trip, concealing your goods and keeping unwanted attention away from them.
Built for long-term use
The goal here was to build a durable compact backpack that can keep doing its job for a long time, in daily use and on the road, using robust construction and premium materials.
ATD Supply develops its products in-house, from pattern to prototype, because the details that make a bag work are often found through use rather than on a drawing board. As per the ATD1, the current ATD2 is the result of years of real-world use and successive production updates, rather than a fixed design released once and left unchanged. The second production run brought further changes to the bottom construction, shoulder-strap geometry, load lifters, compression straps, front organization, hardware and padded areas. The updated construction also allows shorter torsos to find a comfortable carry position.
The backpack has also been independently reviewed and tested by carry-focused publications and reviewers including Carryology, The Perfect Pack, Bo Ismono, Ryuku and Rushfaster.

Compatible Accessories
Break In
Rome wasn't built in a day, nor is your pack's fit. The current laminated fabric is structured and relatively firm when new: at the beginning, the pack feels rigid and shoulder straps may feel stiff to some. Time and use will allow all materials to stretch and conform to your body. Plus, Curv® frame sheet is straight when new but will shape on your back with regular use, thanks to your body heat.
When new, the clamshell opening zipper could get stuck on the corners: the binding tape in that area has a lot of fabric layers in it, it just needs some break in to fold under the zipper runner.
To make the break in process faster, open the zipper in the laptop sleeve and firmly push the frame sheet toward the bottom: this will reduce the pressure on the binding tape itself making it easier to fold.
Load the pack, tighten the shoulder straps and use it daily to make the fit become yours, like with a good pair of jeans or a leather jacket. Good things take time.

Product Care
Clean your pack with mild detergent and line dry it away from direct sunlight. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach, don’t machine wash or tumble dry it. Outer DWR treatment may wear off over time but it is easily restorable with spray coatings for outdoor gear.
